TC MOTORSPORTS SECURES WIN IN UTAH AND LOOKS BACK AT ITS SUCCESSFUL 2008 MUSTANG CHALLENGE SEASON

Auburn, WA —Ted Anthony, Jr., driving the #9 TC Motorsports Ford Racing FR500S, captured his first professional win from his front row starting position at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, UT during the 8th and final round of the Mustang Challenge season.  This race capped off a successful season in which TC Motorsports proved itself the most successful multi-car team in the 2008 Mustang Challenge for the Miller Cup.

During the 2008 season, the TC Motorsports team and drivers netted three wins, three podium finishes, 11 top ten finishes, five front row starts, including two pole positions, and set the fastest race lap in two races.  Both Carlo Sparacio and Rick Edwards finished in the top ten for series points (7th and 10th, respectively) and Andrew Caddell, who raced with TC Motorsports for the first three races of the season, went on to win the championship.  The team also earned every award available in the series, including the BF Goodrich Take Control Award, the Barbasol Closest Shave Award, the Zantrex-3 Insta-Shot Award, and the Sunoco Setting the Standard Award.  Below is a race-by-race recap of the team’s successful season.

Round 1 set the stage for the season.  At Road Atlanta, TC Motorsports’ Caddell won from pole to capture the Inaugural Miller Cup win, while teammate Sparacio started 21st and charged through the pack to finish 6th.  Sparacio captured the first BF Goodrich Take Control Award for advancing the most positions during the race, and Caddell won the Zantrex-3 Insta-Shot Award for leading the most laps during the race.

Round 2 saw Caddell take another start from pole position at Mosport in Ontario, with Sparacio qualifying in 3rd.  Caddell took his second win of the season, with Edwards finishing for the first time in the top ten.  Caddell again won the Zantrex-3 Insta-Shot Award for leading the most laps during the race.

In Round 3 at Mid-Ohio, Caddell lead every practice session, and scored a 2nd place qualifying and race finish.  Sparacio, who finished 6th, also earned the Barbasol Close Shave Award for the closest race finish.

Round 4 at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama started another chapter in the TC Motorsports story as Caddell moved to StableOne Racing, and Sparacio and Edwards would have to produce results.  Sparacio found the speed needed, and qualified and finished in 3rd place behind race winner Terry Borcheller and 2nd place finisher Caddell.  Edwards had his best race finish to date in 9th.  TC Motorsports was also honored with the Sunoco Setting the Standard Award after “showing teamwork, sportsmanship, and a strong measure of both camaraderie and competitiveness” during the Barber race weekend.

Round 5 at Lime Rock Park in Connecticut was a true test for the team.  A cancelled flight from DC to Connecticut forced the team to drive all night to get to the track in time for practice.  In addition to no sleep, a serious flu bug hit more than half of the team.  Ted Anthony, Jr. chose Lime Rock to join the team and made his professional racing debut, qualifying 8th on the grid for his first race.  Sparacio qualified once again on the 2nd row, this time in 4th, and Edwards qualified 11th.  Both Anthony and Edwards had troubles in the race and finished outside of the top ten due to contact.  Sparacio lost two positions to finish 6th.  Due to the flu, no sleep, and bad luck, this was to be one of only two races where the red and blue-liveried TC Motorsports Mustangs did not finish on the Miller Cup podium.

Round 6 at New Jersey Motorsports Park showed the team’s natural abilities.  With a brand new track and facility, no testing was available to the teams prior to the weekend, so everyone would see the track at the same time.  The results were visible immediately, with Sparacio on the front row in every practice session, only tenths of a second off of the leader, his ex-teammate Caddell.  Sparacio qualified 2nd, one tenth of a second off of pole.  Anthony and Edwards also had their best qualifying sessions to date, 6th and 7th, respectively.  The dusty and dirty track was not kind to Sparacio, and he lost one position in the first turn due to not having any grip on the outside of the first corner.  However, the entire TC Motorsports team finished in the top ten, with Sparacio finishing 3rd, Anthony finishing 8th, and Edwards finishing 9th.

The final two rounds of the series took the team back to where the cars were built, Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Sparacio sat out the final weekend while Steve Miller drove the #8 TC Motorsports FR500S in his debut Mustang Challenge weekend.  Anthony showed new determination and set the tone for the weekend, putting down lap times that put him near the top of the time charts all weekend.  The 7th race saw Anthony finish 6th Edwards finished 9th.  Starting on the front row for the 8th and final race of the season, Anthony ran a hard fought race and finished on the top step of the Miler Cup podium.  Again, the entire TC Motorsports team finished in the top ten with Edwards making a great run to finish 8th, his best finish of the season, and Miller finishing in 10th.

TC Motorsports would like to thank all of its 2008 customers, drivers, crew , sponsors, series sponsors, the Miller Cup Mustang Challenge for putting together the greatest spec racing series available, and of course, all of the corner workers and staff for making every weekend competitive, safe, and fun for everyone.  Thank you to all of our competitors for a great season.
