Why Should I Get My Vehicle Aligned?
You would benefit from having your car’s wheels aligned if you have you noticed any of the following while driving your vehicle (daily driver, track car, tow vehicle, or race car):
With the correct wheel alignment for your vehicle, you’ll get reduced tire wear, better gas mileage, improved handling, and safer driving.
Wheel alignment and corner balancing (see below) are critical settings for track and race cars. Not only does a wheel alignment determine tire wear, but it can greatly improve car handling and performance. Having raced production-based sports cars at both club- and profession-levels since 2000, our suspension experts know what settings work for your particular type of car and application, so you can go faster and move up the grid. Plus, wheel alignments and corner balancing qualify for our Speed Guarantee.
What Is Included in a Vehicle Alignment?
First, one of our suspension experts road tests your car. Once the car is on the alignment rack, the entire suspension system is inspected for worn or bent parts, and tire pressures are equalized in all four tires. Ballast is added to the vehicle per the manufacturer’s instructions (to simulate a driver and passenger’s weight).
Then, our state-of-the-art Hunter high-definition digital imaging technology uses four precision cameras to measure the position and orientation of targets mounted on each wheel of your car (if getting a 4 wheel alignment). The aligner computer uses this information to calculate your car’s current alignment measurements and then compares these measurements to the car manufacturer’s (OEM) alignment specifications.
If the aligner determines that your car’s wheel alignment is outside factory specifications, it provides the exact information needed to make the proper adjustments and return the alignment angles to the manufacturer’s specifications.
If you want a more custom alignment for a specific application (e.g., racing, autocross, track days, twisty mountain roads, etc.), we adjust the various alignment settings so they work best with your driving style and your car’s suspension.
Finally, our suspension expert road tests your car again to make sure that the car is ready for you to enjoy!
How Often Should I Have My Vehicle Aligned?
Follow the vehicle manufacturer’s recommendation noted in your owner’s manual. As a general rule, have your wheel alignment checked every 10,000 miles or at least once a year. After installing new tires is also a great time to have your wheel alignment checked.
We recommend that you have your track car or race car’s wheel alignment checked at least once per season, and more often if you’ve replaced suspension parts, or have had any off-track excursions or accidents.
What about Corner Balancing?
If you have a coil over suspension, one of the best things you can do to improve the handling characteristics of your street car, track car, or race car is to get your car corner balanced. In fact, the only true way to set up your coil-over suspension is with a corner balance. Read all about our corner balancing services here.
