Auburn, WA, September 14, 2009–With the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge season winding down, TC Motorsports is still in the hunt to win the championship in this extremely competitive series. TC Motorsports will be at the final round of the 2009 Ford Mustang Challenge this Saturday, September 19, at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT, with four cars, including three of its own FR500S Mustangs, as well as first-time team member Zack Lutz’s #33 FR500S Mustang.
Team driver Ted Anthony, Jr. won last year’s final event at Miller Motorsports Park and hopes to defend his title this year. Anthony, who will be driving the #9 TC Motorsports FR500S this weekend, has had a season of ups and downs. At Round 1 at Homestead Miami he had an engine issue that resulted in a 12th place finish, but followed it up with a race win at Round 2 that same weekend. He backed that win up with two back-to-back wins at Barber Motorsports Park. A tough race in the rain at New Jersey saw Anthony finish 4th, followed by his fourth win of the season at Laguna Seca. Mosport would prove to be a step backward in the championship after getting crashed out in the late stages of the race and finishing 13th. For the next two races at Mid-Ohio and Autobahn, he stood on the second step on the podium. Anthony has accumulated more wins than anyone else in 2009, but due to unfortunate circumstances (e.g., engine issues and being crashed out), sits in second place in the championship. Because it is still mathematically possible for Anthony to be crowned the 2009 Ford Racing Mustang Challenge Champion, Anthony will be focused on standing on the top step of the podium this weekend.
Rick Edwards, who will drive the #7 TC Motorsports FR500S, sits 10th in the championship and is within striking distance of 9th. Returning to the #8 TC Motorsports FR500S is Steve Miller, who also ran this season at Laguna Seca, and at Miller Motorsports Park during the final two races of last season. Joining TC Motorsports for the first time is series regular Lutz in the #33 FR500S. The Lutz Motorsports Group decided to team up for the final race with TC Motorsports, who has experience winning at Miller Motorsports Park, and brings a competent and proven support system for developing talented drivers in sports car racing.
Edwards will also make his Grand-Am KONI Challenge racing debut this weekend, sharing the driving duties with Anthony, in the Salt Lake City 200 endurance race on Friday, September 18. The duo will drive the #76 Compass360 Racing Honda Civic in the ST class. This will be Anthony’s second time in the Honda.
