Auburn, WA, September 30, 2009—TC Motorsports finished the 2009 Ford Racing Mustang Challenge (FRMC) season with three top ten finishes in the last race, 2nd and 10th in the driver’s championship, the team GoPro “Be a Hero” Award, and 1st in the FRMC pinewood derby event to raise funds for the Austin Hatcher Foundation. As these accomplishments attest, TC Motorsports remains the most successful team in FRMC, and the standard against which other teams in the series are measured.
TC Motorsports drivers finished the last round of the 2009 FRMC season at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT, with three top-ten qualifying performances and race finishes. Ted Anthony, Jr. qualified 2nd and finished 2nd in his customary style of rock steady consistency and no mistakes. Zack Lutz, who raced with TC Motorsports for the first time in Utah, qualified 6th and finished 4th, both FRMC career highs for Lutz, whose highest previous performances were 11th and 8th, respectively. Steve Miller qualified 11th, and after first-lap contact with another competitor, which pushed him as far back as 16th, drove to an impressive 8th place finish. Rick Edwards qualified 9th, but due to contact during a first lap incident, was not able to finish the race.
Edwards, however, did drive in another race during the Utah weekend. The TC Motorsports duo of Edwards and Anthony drove the #76 Compass360 Racing Honda Civic in the Grand-Am KONI Challenge Salt Lake City 200 endurance race in the ST class. Edwards qualified the car 12th in class. With smart racing and some great passes, he made his way up to 8th in the race before turning the driving duties over to Anthony. Racing into the dark Utah night, Anthony continued to move up in the field and, at the end of the 2.5 hour race, finished 5th in class, which is an impressive debut for this driving team in the competitive KONI Challenge series. Be sure to watch the race (or set your DVR for) this Saturday, October 3, at 1:30 pm Eastern (10:30 am Pacific) on SPEED.
At the end of the weekend, Anthony and Edwards had more finishes to celebrate. At the FRMC banquet, Anthony collected his trophy for 2nd place in the 2009 FRMC driver’s championship, and Edwards collected his trophy for 10th place in the 2009 FRMC driver’s championship. These awards were well deserved after the hard work these drivers put in over the course of the season. Anthony finished the season with four wins (tying for the most this season), three podium finishes, one top five and one top ten finishes, nine front row starts, including four pole positions, and he also set the fastest race lap in four races. Edwards finished the season with one top five and three top ten finishes, and five top five and four top ten starts.
During the FRMC banquet, the TC Motorsports team was also awarded the GoPro “Be a Hero” Award for “the entire organizations’ efforts to promote the Mustang Challenge series as well as for the sportsmanship and competitiveness that the team has demonstrated ever since winning the series’ first-ever race back in May 2008.”
TC Motorsports collected yet another 1st place trophy and fastest lap honor at the banquet. However, this time it was by TC Motorsports Crew Chief and #7 Car Chief Jon Ament, who won the pinewood derby event with his red and blue-liveried #007 pinewood derby car. In addition to bragging rights, Ament won 4 BFGoodrich street tires and a Hurst shifter. The derby, which was held before FRMC banquet, raised funds for the Austin Hatcher Foundation.

TC Motorsports would like to thank its 2009 FRMC drivers including Rick Edwards, Ted Anthony, Jr., Steve Miller, Gunter Schaldach, and Zack Lutz. In addition, TC Motorsports would like to thank Crew Chief and #7 Car Chief Jon Ament, #9 Car Chief Clint Kieffer, #8 and #09 Car Chief Jon Zweiger, and #33 Car Chief Trever McDermott for their hard work and dedication throughout the 2009 season.
