Auburn, WA, August 4, 2009—TC Motorsports’ Ted Anthony, Jr. finished 2nd and recorded the fastest race lap in Round 9 of the 2009 Ford Racing Mustang Challenge (FRMC), which was part of the HARRAH’s Autobahn Grand Prix Presented by Mazda held July 24–26 at Autobahn Country Club in Joliet, IL. Anthony was fast all weekend, posting the 3rd and 1st fastest times in the two practice sessions, respectively, grabbing his 4th pole position of the season, and then setting the fastest race lap for the 4th time this season. His second place finish was less than 1.5 seconds behind race winner Tony Buffomante.
TC Motorsports’ Rick Edwards ran well within the top-ten during the weekend’s two practice sessions (7th and 6th, respectively), but due to a mechanical issue with his car, only qualified 16th. During a race restart after a full course yellow flag, he drove out of the single-file line to avoid hitting the car in front of him, which had missed a shift. As a result, he was assessed a drive-through penalty that sent Edwards well back behind the rest of the field. However, that did not stop Edwards from working his way back up to finish 12th, still four places ahead of where he qualified.
Gunter Schaldach, who drove with TC Motorsports for the first time at Autobahn, immediately felt comfortable with the #09 TC Motorsports FR500S and the team. He was 4th and 5th fastest in the two practices, respectively, and qualified 4th. Unfortunately Schaldach’s race ended early when a competitor, who went into turn 2 too deep, crashed into Schaldach and ended both of their races on the first lap. Given Schaldach’s speed and consistency during the weekend, he was poised for successful race finish.
Both Anthony and Edwards, who are 2nd and 10th in the FRMC driver championship, respectively, are looking forward to the 10th and final FRMC round, which will be September 17–19 at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, UT. This is the home race for the series since FRMC was formed in collaboration between Miller Motorsports Park and Ford Racing, and is operated by Miller Motorsports Park.
In addition to Anthony and Edwards, TC Motorsports is pleased to announce that Steve Miller of Mercer Island, WA will be returning to drive the #8 TC Motorsports FR500S. This will be Miller’s 4th appearance in the FRMC series, after competing in Round 6 at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in May, and in the last two races of the 2008 season at Miller Motorsports Park.
