TC Motorsports Provides Winning Opportunities for Talented Drivers

TC Motorsports Drivers on the Podium

Auburn, WA, April 21, 2009—After watching Ted Anthony, Jr. win his third straight race in the 2009 Ford Racing Mustang Challenge series, Ford Racing Performance Group Manager Jamie Allison asked TC Motorsports Team Principal Carlo Sparacio, “How does TC Motorsports keep finding these fast young drivers from Washington—is it in the water?”

Although “it” may be something in the water, what continually produces such fast and successful drivers is TC Motorsports’ dedication to our customers’ motorsports goals. Since its first foray into professional racing in the 2005 Pro Mazdaspeed Miata Cup, TC Motorsports has been, and continues to be, one of the premiere arrive and drive companies in the United States providing talented drivers a unique opportunity to hone and showcase their skills in professional sports car racing.

The TC Motorsports crew has been diligently developing the FR500S chassis since the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge series inception in early 2008, and the team driver coaches have been working with each of the drivers who race with the team. As a result, TC Motorsports has had more customer drivers win races than any other team in the history of the series, enjoying 2 wins in 2008 with Andrew Caddell, and 4 wins with Anthony in 2008 and 2009. In addition to first place finishes, TC Motorsports drivers (of which there have been a total of five) have also accomplished numerous front row qualifying performances, podium, top five, and top ten finishes, and track records, as well as earning every award possible in the series.

At Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama, this past weekend, Anthony won Rounds 3 and 4 of the Ford Racing Mustang Challenge driving the #9 TC Motorsports FR500S (one of three Ford factory built FR500Ss in the TC Motorsports fleet). The Mustang Challenge races were the headline races for the 45th Anniversary Ford Mustang celebration event, where 23,000 spectators, including Ford President and CEO Alan Mulally, were on hand to watch the racing and celebrate the iconic car.

Anthony, from Kenmore, Washington, has been coined the hottest racer in the series by Ford Racing Mustang Challenge and his performance showed why this weekend. Having never seen the Barber track, he topped the time sheets during the two Friday practice sessions, qualified on pole for Saturday’s race, setting a new track record in the process, and won the race. Anthony went on to qualify 2nd on Sunday, but was able to out-race the competition and finish victorious again. Anthony has won four of the last five Mustang Challenge series races (Round 8 at Miller Motorsports Park in 2008, Round 2 at Miami-Homestead in 2009, and Rounds 3 and 4 this past weekend at Barber).

Rick Edwards, from Des Moines, Washington, driving the #7 TC Motorsports/ edwardsdds.com FR500S, also had a great showing over the weekend, finishing in the top five during both Friday practice sessions and qualifying 3rd for the Saturday race. This is Edwards’ best qualifying performance to date, only 0.052 second from second place Caddell and 0.192 second from the pole-sitting Anthony. Unfortunately, an incident during qualifying forced Edwards to drive the spare car for the race. Since he was using a different car than he qualified in, he was required to start from the back of the field for the race. After starting 21st, and running as high as 15th, Edwards finished 16th in the Saturday race. For the Sunday race, he drove the spare car again, qualifying and starting 8th and finishing 6th.

The team would also like to thank Sherman Engler, a local professional driving coach who knows the Barber track intimately and was on hand over the weekend to work with TC Motorsports’ drivers so they could get an edge up on the competition with some great insight and local knowledge of the track. “Sherman and his wife Tonie also came out to help us last year at Barber. They have always been a great asset to our drivers, and great friends to the team,” said Sparacio.
